We’ve been drinking almond milk for a long time now. It’s a nutrient-dense and delicious alternative to cow’s milk for those who are dairy-free, but still want to enjoy milk in their coffee or cereal.
But this is the first time we’ve ever attempted to make our own homemade almond milk. It always seemed like such a daunting task to us, but after we tried it for ourselves we realized how easy it is!
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own:
Place the almonds in a bowl and cover with about an inch of water. Cover and let them soak overnight or in the fridge for up to 2 days. After they’re done soaking, drain and rinse the almonds in cool water. Place them in a blender or food processor with the two cups of water. Blend until the liquid is white and opaque and the almonds are broken down into a fine meal, about 2-3 minutes. Line a strainer with the cheesecloth and place over a bowl. Place the almond mixture into the strainer and ring out all of the liquid. Taste the almond milk and add sweetener if you prefer.
This recipe makes about two cups. You can store the almond milk in your bento jar for up to two days in the fridge. You’ll always have it handy for your coffee, cereal or just to take a glass on the go!
